What began as a small, local meetup for 40 players has grown into a full-blown festival with over 260 participants from 18 different countries. The Uthden Troll Cup, known for its welcoming vibe and celebration of the golden age of trading card games, is expanding its offerings this year with a spotlight on Sorcery: Contested Realm. Players will gather in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, from October 31 to November 3, 2024, for a weekend of fun, nostalgia, and epic gameplay.

Where Nostalgia Meets New Blood

The Troll Cup isn’t about cutthroat competition - it’s about friendship and the joy of playing games we love. From Cube to Sealed Play, there’s something for everyone, including two Learn-to-Play Sorcery events and a Sunday Sealed tournament for 32 players. “Sorcery taps into that old-school magic with its stunning art and chess-like gameplay,” says Ron Dijkstra, aka Chief Troll, the mastermind behind the event.

Why Sorcery?

For Ron and the Troll Cup team, Sorcery represents the perfect blend of nostalgic art and modern gameplay. With its 5x4 battlefield and hand-painted cards, Sorcery’s strategic depth and stunning visuals are a natural fit for the Troll Cup’s atmosphere of fun and discovery. “The full-art foils alone make cracking packs exciting again!” Ron adds.

What to Expect

Attendees can expect an inclusive, laid-back vibe, with a focus on making new friends, enjoying amazing food, and collecting hobby swag. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the scene, the Uthden Troll welcomes everyone.

Beyond the inclusive vibe, the festival offers unique features like artist signings, alter workshops, and low-barrier draft events designed for new players or those on a budget. Plus, attendees can expect exciting swag, exclusive prizes, and legendary bragging rights as part of the Troll Cup experience.

Excitement Builds for Sorcery’s Debut

For the Sorcery Sealed event, the festival has pulled out all the stops. “We’re excited to introduce more people to Sorcery’s old-school charm,” Ron said. Players can look forward to an immersive experience filled with prizes, community, and a deeper understanding of the game’s unique mechanics.

At the end of the day, the goal is simple: for every attendee to leave with a sense of belonging. "We want people to feel like they've become part of something special—like they've made new friends, created unforgettable memories, and of course, collected some amazing cards and hobby swag," Ron shared.

For the Sorcery events, the focus will be on learning the game in a fun, laid-back atmosphere. “Our golden rule here is simple: Don’t be a dick. Or as we say in Sorcery—just be cool,” Ron added with a laugh.
