If you attended some of the major Sorcery community events of 2024, like the Courtesan Cup, chances are you've heard of Spinscott. An accomplished DJ, and longtime TCG enthusiast, Scott has been making waves in the community through his insightful content on The Contested Reality YouTube channel and his contributions to The Ruby Core-ier, a retro-inspired fan-zine. Recently, Scott took a break from the turntables and his creative projects to share a deck he's been carefully refining — a balanced deck designed for fun and "casual competitive" play.
Get to Know Scott
Scott: I’m Scott AKA Spinscott, and I was a very dedicated collector and player of TCGs back in the early-mid 1990s. I discovered Sorcery in late 2023, and the game quickly pulled me back into the scene full swing due to the hand-painted art, casually competitive gameplay, and welcoming community.
My journey with Sorcery began with just two boxes of Beta that I bought for nostalgia. Since then, I’ve expanded my involvement to collecting playsets and artwork, building decks, and playing frequently at home and my LGS. I’ve also embraced my role as an evangelist of the Realm, introducing new players and teaching them how to play.

Scott: The Equilibrium deck’s primary theme involves a Sorcerer who invokes the power of Earth and Fire to dominate the realm in a dramatic, balanced, and fun way. It’s an intuitive deck that can win, while keeping casual, competitive play, and storytelling at the forefront.
The primary goal of this deck is to overtake the Realm with an army of increasingly powerful minions, while being able to strategically time Site attacks, direct damage, removal, and life-gain. Rather than lock into an Aggro, Midrange, or Control structure, Equilibrium is designed to be agile and fluid, enabling me to apply best practices from each deck type at various stages of the game.

What are some of the key cards in the deck?
Scott: Low-cost minions with high-value special abilities are a key component to this deck, because they provide benefits at most stages of the game. Vile Imp, War Horse, and Land Surveyor all fall into a category, as their respective damage, charge, carry, and site draw abilities are quite versatile throughout the game. I also include Infernal Legion and Colicky Dragonettes, because their ability to deal recurring damage puts a continuous threat on the board while I execute other strategies.

With regards to the Atlas, multi-threshold sites like Steppe, Glastonbury Tor, and Caerleon-Upon-Usk are essential because they cover Fire and Earth threshold, and Valley of Delight brings additional flexibility. One other site I consider essential is Hunter’s Lodge, primarily because Stealth has become much more of a threat since the release of Arthurian Legends.

What are some of your favorite tactics to use with this deck?
Scott: One of my favorite combos to play in Equilibrium is War Horse with Pudge Butcher. While it doesn’t occur in every game, being able to carry such a powerful immobile Demon is great. With the War Horse’s charge ability, this combo becomes almost impossible for opponents to anticipate.
I also like to combo War Horse with Infernal Legion, because it enables me to advance the Legion into enemy territory and away from my home area, optimizing the Legion’s end-of-turn adjacent damage effect. Sadly, this combo never ends well for the horse, but its self-sacrifice is always appreciated.

What are the deck’s strengths and weaknesses?
Scott: One of Equilibrium’s main strengths is that it provides me with alternatives to consider on almost every turn and strikes an excellent balance between luck and skill. Also, because it doesn’t fit nicely into one of the traditional deck types, it can be perceived as unpredictable by opponents and causes them to second-guess their usual strategies.
Back when I built the first iterations of this deck, not many people were playing Water, so it was quite strong against other Earth, Fire, and Air decks. With the significant boost Water received from the Arthurian Legends set, many players now use it as a primary element, and not being able to execute removal on Water sites has emerged as a weakness for Equilibrium.

Final Plans and Future Thoughts
Scott: I tend to rate decks not just on their ability to win, but also by the fun factor of playing the cards and the potential for good stories and surprise interactions. Factoring all that in, I am very happy with this deck, and really enjoy playing against a variety of players with it. I’m excited to build a different deck next that features Water, Earth and Fire, based on some successful draft and sealed tournaments I’ve participated in. Additionally, I’ve put together a stand-alone Arthurian Legends cube that simulates draft, sealed, and league play at home. The setup is great for introducing new people to Sorcery and has been a blast to play with. I look forward to posting the card list on Curiosa and creating some videos about it soon!
Thank You, Scott!
