Arthurian Legends are filled with creatures beyond the mortal knights of the Realm. Ask any local, and they’ll tell you that if you stray too far from home or are unlucky or unwise, you’ll encounter the Faerie Folk.

While it’s generally best to steer clear of meddling in the affairs of the Fae, today you’ve happened upon them. At best, you’re in for some destructive mischief, and at worst… well, that’s a longer tale…

Enter the Hyter Sprites

Erik’s Curiosa is excited to welcome a new subtype into Sorcery: Contested Realm - Faeries. Brought to life by veteran TCG artist Melissa A. Benson, the Hyter Sprites peer from the dusk, staring into your soul.

“I always love creating enchanted and anthropomorphic beings, and I’d never done sprites before, so I was happy to add it to my batch for Sorcery’s Arthurian Legends set,” Benson shares. “I always do a ton of research for pieces I do, and I found a wide range of looks.” To help decide on the art direction and create a piece that would be detailed, yet well suited to a feature on a trading card with a distinct silhouette, Melissa drafted some examples of birds with human features and examples of more benevolent-looking harpies.

Regardless of the approach, Melissa knew she wanted the viewer to be hesitant about following them. “I wanted them to look a little freaky in an otherworldly kind of way. They have both feathers and long black hair, and they are exceedingly spindly. I especially wanted their stare to make the viewer a little ill at ease. I have to admit, this is one of my favorite pieces I did in the Arthurian Legends set.”

Players at the West Coast’s premier old-school trading card group, Beasts of the Bay exclusively premiered this card at their Two-Headed Dragon tournament today, a community-made multi-player format for 2v2 games.

The Hyter Sprites are one of the first of a handful of pre-release reveals that you can find on the sorcery website’s Arthurian Legends “spoiler season” section.
