Gadu Duaso

Gadu Duaso discovered a world of creativity and self-expression through online computer games from an early age, finding a connection in virtual realms that he felt were lacking in reality. Introduced to the arts by his father, his formal training began in high school under the mentorship of Emar Lacorte, focusing on classical painting techniques. He continued his artistic journey with studies in Fine Arts at the University of Philippines - Cebu, where he delved into modern and contemporary art practices.

The intersection of classical painting training and his fascination with computer gaming profoundly influences Gadu Duaso's visual style. His artwork draws inspiration from childhood experiences, personal fantasies, and surreal landscapes, depicted in oil paintings that evoke a game-like atmosphere. He utilizes allegorical expressions extensively to convey his ideas and emotions indirectly, believing that symbols expand his artistic perspective and facilitate deeper communication.

For Duaso, art serves as a medium to bridge personal experiences with broader reflections on the human condition. By integrating allegorical elements into his work, he invites viewers to immerse themselves in his imagery, encouraging introspection and contemplation of their own life experiences within the realms he creates.

Preferred Medium:

The primary medium I work with is oil paint, supplemented occasionally by pencils and pen/ink drawings. Oil paint is my preferred medium due to its versatility in opacity and transparency, vibrant color range, and the enjoyable process of mixing with a palette knife. Unlike quick-drying paints, oil allows me the freedom to blend and mix without time constraints, a quality I appreciate immensely.

From high school through college and into my freelance career, oil paint has been my signature medium. All of my Sorcery works are created using oil paint. My creative process begins with submitting drawing studies and preliminary sketches of Sorcery characters and their environments (Environment Design), followed by iterative adjustments and revisions to enhance composition, subject clarity, and detail before finalizing everything on canvas.
