Anson Maddocks

Born on July 28th, 1968, in Anchorage, Alaska, Anson Maddocks grew up in Sitka on Baranof Island, where he developed a passion for art early on. In the second grade, he met his lifelong friend, Mark Tedin, and they inspired each other to hone their artistic skills. After high school, Anson studied at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and later at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.

He found work as an illustrator for various clients, including Wizards of the Coast, where he contributed significantly to the Magic: The Gathering series. Over his career at Wizards from 1993 to 2008, Anson created over 120 artworks for Magic: The Gathering cards and helped define the game's visual style.

Anson also worked for other gaming companies like White Wolf and Alderac Entertainment Group. Now living in Southern Nevada with his wife Brenda and their cat Judas, he works as a freelance illustrator, enjoying interests in kinetic sculpture, travel, and photograph and greeting art for Sorcery: Contested Realm!
