Sorcery Comes Together in Prato, Italy
Published 1 October 2026This past weekend, Sorcerers gathered in Prato, Italy, for the latest in our worldwide series of Grand Contests, this time hosted by Magic Maze.
For the team at Magic Maze, the weekend represented more than simply running another tournament, the store has supported Sorcery since our Kickstarter beginning, and bringing together players for a Grand Contest on this scale felt like a milestone years in the making.
“The event was truly fantastic, and we couldn’t be happier with how the weekended turnout out,” store owner and event organizer Federico shared after the event.

Competition, Community, and a Weekend of Sorcery
Across two days of play, the Grand Contest brought together players from across Italy and beyond. While the competition was serious, that competitive energy never came at the expense of the atmosphere around the tables.
That balance, competition alongside shared enthusiasm, was visible throughout the venue with players gathering between rounds to talk through games, compare cards and decks, meet artists, and simply spend time together around Sorcery.
For the Magic Maze team, seeing those connections form was one of the most rewarding parts of hosting the event, adding “Seeing everyone sitting around the tables, talking with one another, meeting the artists and simply enjoying Sorcery was one of the most rewarding parts of the whole experience.”

Artists in the Realm
The weekend wasn’t just what happened around the table as well. Sorcery artists Liz Danforth, Francesca Baerald, Vincent Pompetti, and Andrea Modesti were in attendance.
“The artists were absolutely spectacular,” Federico shares, “They worked incredibly hard throughout the whole event, interacting with players, signing cards, drawing, and contributing so much to the atmosphere.”
Having the artist present gave players another opportunity to connect with the physical artwork at the heart of Sorcery and with the people who created it.

Looking ahead
By the end of the weekend, Prato had delivered plenty beyond the tournament standings: two days of games, artists surrounded by players and cards, and a chance for Sorcerers from across Italy and beyond to spend a weekend together.
For Magic Maze, it also marked the culmination of years spent supporting the game and building its local community.
“Hosting the Grand Contest was a very special moment for Magic Maze,” Federico said. “After supporting Sorcery since the Alpha days, being able to bring the community together for an event of this scale felt like the culmination of years of work, passion and belief in the game. But more than anything, it made us want to do even more.”
Thank you to Federico, the entire Magic Maze team, the judges, artists, players, and everyone else who helped make the Prato Grand Contest possible.
The Grand Contest season continues this weekend with events at Good Games in Adelaide, Australia, and Spellbound Games in the United Kingdom.
