WHAT IS A CUBE?
A cube is a player curated, personalized draftable set. Initially intended for Magic: The Gathering, the cube format has proven itself to be a diverse format that works in, and helps cultivate unique set design in many, many table top card games.
WHY IS IT SPELLED C/UBE?
A c/ube is a cube that contains only common and uncommon cards. Or, more accurately for Sorcery, only ordinary and exceptional cards. I have chosen to make this c/ube 360 cards so that it perfectly accommodates 8 players.
HOW BIG SHOULD MY DECK BE AFTER I'VE DRAFTED?
I really recommend that you have a basic composition of 35 cards in your Spellbook and 20 cards in your Atlas. You probably wont be able to draft 20 sites while also drafting a complete Spellbook, so keep some of the draft sites around so that everyone can have a 20 card Atlas.
I DONT LIKE YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS!
Cube is a wonderful format that is intentionally flexible. I strongly suggest you make adjustments that make sense to you and your playgroup. Are 20 sites not enough? Use more. Is a 35 card Spellbook too big? Use less. You will get the most out of this format if you allow yourself to adjust. Some people wont like knowing that their preferences are not empirical fact, they are just preferences and opinions. Keep an open mind.
SHOULD I USE HOUSE RULES?
In a word, yes. Cube itself is basically one giant House Rule. "This is the set, and we are going to draft just these cards."
My own personal views wont help you with what they should be. Maybe you love Blood Ravens and you think the lifegain should trigger from striking a site. Do that then. Just communicate what House Rules you'd like to use, and keep in mind that each new House Rule is something your drafters are going to have to remember along with everything else they are considering. My advice would be to also remain flexible. Maybe the group would rather not use your Blood Ravens working as printed House Rule. So if you can get away without a House Rule then maybe drop it. Fewer is probably better.
I DONT LIKE YOUR CARD LIST!
Okay, that was always allowed. The list of cards in a cube is fluid. Feel free to change anything that doesn't work for you.
The very best consequence of introducing someone to cube is for them to want to build their own. Maybe 280 cards makes more sense to you, and you want to use ordinary, elite and unique cards, but you dont like exceptional cards. I literally cannot tell you how excited I would be to check your list and enjoy your creativity.
DRAFTING IS BAD, ONLY CONSTRUCTED IS GOOD!
It can be a lot of work to convince your playgroup to give cube drafting a try. In my experience it is best to schedule a draft far from competitive events locally so that there are no missed tournaments or conflicts of schedule. Sorcery is an extraordinarily good game and I find that drafting is just as enjoyable as constructed.
