This unbelievably cursed list is an attempt to construct a full, 60/30/10 tournament-legal deck that generates no elemental affinity with any site or other card, and has no spells with any elemental threshold. In other words, a completely colorless deck. 's natural synergies with artifacts made him the obvious choice for an avatar.
My inspiration for building this thing is how punishing I have found running too many sites without threshold to be, despite many of them having really strong and wacky abilities that I wanted to make use of. This deck was a way I can run as many as I wanted. It is not remotely competitive and is intended for casual play, but it is (I think) at least functional. I do not have a in real life, but it is such an obvious inclusion that I put in the deck for those who do.
The standard Battlemage package of , , , and is here. Beyond that, the focus of the other equipment is mainly on minimizing damage to yourself in combat and giving options for healing, since the really efficient options like in Earth and the Vampires in Air are off-limits.
The greatest obstacle I encountered ended up being just how few Automatons have been printed thus far in the lifespan of Sorcery. You will end up wanting additional bodies to defend your end of the board and give redundant equipment to, and the options available are quite bizarre, to say the least. 's deathrite ability naturally synergizes with Battlemage's inherent disinclination to spend turns tapping and playing sites, which is also why the mana curve caps off for the most part at 4. ' ability is mostly irrelevant but it's the closest thing to a fairly-costed 3-power minion for its stats that we can hope for. can put in work if you make him ranged, as you don't want him losing more life than he gains you. exists.
The collection is accessed via . would be a terrible choice because there are only six Ordinary artifacts in existence currently, all of which have niche use-cases at best, and is awkward because it requires tapping.
Anticipated questions and their answers:
"Why doesn't this deck run Cores? Wouldn't they reduce the amount of time you need to wait playing sites before Battlemage can start killing stuff?"
Yes, they certainly would, but they also provide elemental affinity, and thus are in conflict with this deck's ethos.
"How would work with this deck?"
It seems like it could do a lot to make up for the lack of choice in minions, but it unequips Battlemage's stuff if you get too close to it, which is not at all what you want, and is why I didn't include it.
"?"
Absolutely not.
