Hello! I'm Joven, and this is my 4-Color Dragonlord Caelestis control deck. I really wanted to play something like this, and I am so excited to continue to work on and evolve it! "Next-Level Dragon Lord"! I've always had an obsession with 5-color control decks in magic, from Keeper in oldschool, to Chapin's Next Level Blue. This is my sorcery take on that style of deck, but with more DRAGONS!!
**Update - I have removed most of the Water element for consistency's sake, still tweaking!**
Here are explanations for my card choices:
Mana Rocks
- Cradle of Etherrum, Four Waters, and Shrine are all well known and solid.
- The real standout and best addition to this deck from Gothic (in my opinion) is Wiccan Tools! It might not seem amazing at first, but being able to have the threshold for a timely piece of removal or defensive creature is often great, but the REAL place this shines is when you have a dragon rotting away in your hand these, in combinations with the Dragonlord Caelestis ability, act like mini Dragon Lord's Lairs! AND THEY DRAW A CARD! Lovely. (Originally, I hade cores in here, then I tried Mixes, but I have to say, Wiccan Tools blew them out of the water in here!)
Other "Rocks"
- The Toolbox tutor package opens up the ability to have solid answers when needed. Having 3 of these main, and 1 Common Sense side (and 3 main) is VERY important, as it allows you to Toolbox for Common Sense, then search your deck, later in the game this can be insanely helpful.
- Angel's Egg is great, playing it early helps you stay in the game, and playing it late in conjunction with a Poison Nova/Earthquake/Murder of Crows wipe can completely flip things around in your favor.
Minions of the Dragonlord! On top of the (Obvious) dragons, the minions in this deck have been meticulously chosen, and I am constantly testing new ones. Here is where I am currently at:
- Apprentice/Grandmaster Wizards draw cards and are spellcasters, that's enough for me!
- Leprechaun trades and draws a site
- Root Spiders are amazing, hard to remove and stop enemy minions dead in their tracks, an amazing defensive option.
It's Magic!
- Dream Quest/Pact With the Devil - We are already playing 6 spellcasters, but now that we have Wiccan Tools, ANY of our minions can be spellcasters.
- Disenchant, Lightning Bolt, Minor Explosion are the Common Sense package. They are interchangeable based on the meta, and I would consider Magic Missiles over Lightning bolt, but these are up to your local meta/preference.
- Poison Nova, Earthquake, Cast into Exile solid minion removal.
- Chaos Twister - I think this card is way underplayed, it guarantees you will kill 1 minion, but then it can ALSO wipe out all the minions on a site! And don't forget, if it the minion lands on the void and it doesn't have voidwalk, its banished!
- Whirling Blades - Card is busted.
Sites
- Dragonlord's Lair...duh.
- Multi-Element lands: This deck needs to hit its colors, so it is playing all the fixing I own! If I get more, I will add it. I have also moved one of each Water Element dual site to the collection to fetch with with Ersatz Platz, as water is not a super important Element in this list, and this gives access to any other element needed.
- Utility Sites - I chose to go with Cloud City and Rift Valley as a way to disrupt enemy plans, the towers for a little mana boost, Observatory as filtering, and active Volcano / Mountain Peaks as these thresholds are important.
The Collection:
- Zap! / Grapple Shot- FINISH HIM!
- Blink - Movement option
- Magic Missiles - Removal
- Common sense - This allows you to Toolbox for Common Sense, then search your deck, later in the game this can be insanely helpful!
- Firebolts - Good cheap projectiles.
- Unravel - Great against undead AND Weapons/Items!
- Boil - There's a lot of water floating around, let's punish them!
- Murder of Crows - Can wipe out a necromancer's army...TWICE! Can also sweep up 2 power minions late in the game.
- Just a Rock! More like, just a way to painfully disrupt an opponent! A super solid piece of tech for getting rid of weapons and items, also tutorable with common sense!
- Just a Rock!
Well, that's it for now! This is what I have come to from the limited testing I have done so far. The more I play, the more I will learn and I am positive this deck will evolve and change over time. Thanks for checking it out!
