The Reign of Caelestis (Dragonlord)
This is a deck focused on Ramp, Control, and Late-Game Combo. The star of the show isn't just playing gigantic dragons, but abusing your Avatar's ability, the Dragonlord, to copy Caelestis' ability. The goal is to survive the early game, accelerate your mana base and thresholds with artifacts, sweep away opponent's threats, and eventually dominate the board with an unassailable card and mana advantage.
The primary win condition and engine of the deck revolve around copying Caelestis' ability with your Dragonlord.
By doing so, your Avatar gains an absurd amount of value each turn. This transforms your Dragonlord into a resource-generating machine, allowing you to play other massive dragons (like Ignis Rex, Vatn Draconis, and Talamh Dreig) much sooner than your opponent can handle them.
In the first few turns, your priority is establishing your base.
Mana Accelerators: Play your Mixes (Aer, Aqua, Ignis, Terra) as quickly as possible. They help fix your thresholds for multi-elemental spells later.
Toolbox: Use the Toolbox to find the missing pieces of your gear.
Site Placement: With 30 sites, you have excellent consistency.
1. Midgame (Control and Card Flow)
Prioritize sites that provide the thresholds you need for your mid-game control spells. Unique locations like The Colour Out of Space, Avalon, and Caerleon-Upon-Usk are crucial for versatility.
While you prepare the ground for Caelestis, you need to prevent aggressive or swarm decks from overwhelming your Dragonlord.
Board Control: Save Poison Nova, Apply Alkahest, and Major Explosion for critical moments. Don't waste them on small targets; wait for your opponent to commit to the board and punish them with a devastating cleanse.
Card Advantage: Keep your hand full using Gift of the Raven and the Wiccan Tools. Having options is vital to finding Caelestis or control answers at the right time.
Prioritize sites that provide the thresholds you need for your mid-game control spells. Landmass: Use to accelerate the placement of your sites and quickly increase your spellcasting capacity for the heavy threats at hand.
Once Caelestis is active and Dragonlord is copying its ability, the game quickly turns in your favor.
Summoning the Beasts: Start bringing down your bigger threats. Dragons like Adtonitum, Draco Corvus, and Ancient Dragon will dominate the air and land.
Deadly Mobility: Your dragons are strong, but they need to reach their target. Use your 25 mobility spells aggressively or defensively. Blink, Charge, and Teleport are crucial for placing your giant dragons directly in the path of the enemy Avatar, bypassing blockers or escaping dangerous areas.
Patience with Clearing: Since most of your minions cost 5, 7, or more, you will spend the first few turns without much board presence. Don't panic. Use your total life points as a resource and only cast Poison Nova when your life points are at their maximum.
The Power of Charge and Blink: The Charge card is extremely dangerous in this deck. An Ignis Rex or an East-West Dragon that enters the battlefield and immediately attacks with Charge or repositions itself with Blink can end the game in one turn.
