Intro/backstory: Water is busted! Finally! Water is my favorite element. Tried some early waveshaper and even seer and could never get the decks to do what I wanted. Then came gothic and more importantly Harbinger! I love that avatar play big aquatic nightmares and pull stuff into the void! Who doesn't love that! Plus Succubus, Aino, Lilith, Raphael, failed mutation, MMC! So many great new minions. Alas The variance on harbinger means without voidwalk sometime setup takes too long. Looking at you interrogator. Then came @Ceej's water necromancer list. Saw it and thought it was super neat. Then funnily enough played against it that night on TTS by another player and was sold. The synergies between skeletons and shapeshift, gnarled wendigo, swap and your troll bridges and thin ice! Insanity, plus the impetus to play stuff early isn't there. You get to play stuff when you want/need to vs feeling like you have to have a minion to block/attack early because of the skeletons.
Gameplan: You control the pace of the game with creatures that interact with or remove stuff favorably. You always have good value minions to play and can cheat in big stuff early. Need to go aggro? Send the skeletons then shapeshift into a menace Need to play more control? Defensive sites and play back until you set up. Midrange slog? We do that to. Always need a chump blocker? Need something to feed your temple of moloch, gilman house, or panoptic manuscript? Tokens, token, tokens. Tawny who?
This deck can be built a lot of different ways. Mine is tailored to how I like to play. Which is a more tempo based game plan I like to be able to adjust to what my opponent is doing. Trade favorably. Always have something to do. Have answers into most anything. There are lot of things that can and have beaten this list in play testing but I think the best thing about it is you should almost always be able to play the game. Sometimes you have blowout control games. Sometimes you just play on curve and play valuetown minions and attrition out. I've only ever had one game even in testing where I couldn't piece anything together where I didn't feel like I could play. Super fun deck! Check out @Ceej's version super cool different take and I think he deserves credit for the Water necro archetype. I feel like the SCG ATL win was a lot of luck paired with water being in a great spot. Happy to do a write up of those matches but just wanted to give my thoughts for whatever they're worth on this super fun deck and the fact we have a super solid Water archetype to tool around with! Best of luck Water Sorcerors!
