Yo! Welcome to the primer for my DS Self Mill Deck!
To start things off a quick history on me a tcgs and why im choosing this deck as my main passion project for the Sorcery tcg.
Basically for as long as ive been playing tcgs (started with Invasion block for mtg) ive loved using the graveyard as a resource. So naturally in mtg I was the reanimator guy and when I got a good collection I competed in legacy format events using a deck called Tin Fins and Dredge as a back up. I loved every minute of it too until mtg started doing things I heavily disagreed with and I dropped the game about 7ish years ago. When Sorcery was announced on KS it immediately gave me those mtg vibes I loved as a kid so I backed it. When I got my product I saw DS and knew this was the avatar for me and ive been working on making this deck as fun as I can so here we are haha.
So for the start behind this self mill deck is ever growing as I play more games against various avatars and opposing strats. The idea is pretty simple though, mill yourself to get that advantage asap. The advantage here is tons of card draw with those wizards and lots of minion generation with the necromancers. I also run a solid ordinary package that answers various problematic cards that exist in the game. The way I look at avatars is that each one offers the player a "cheat code" to help them win paired with piloting the deck correctly. DS "cheat code" is obviously using the graveyard as a second hand. When all this self mill stuff got printed in gothic my face lit right up and I felt at home haha. Something ive learned though is to not fill that yard up too fast, especially if the opponent is on fire, the bigger a yard you have the juicier a target it can become. Try to keep it minimal until you need new targets and go from there. In my maybe board I have a short stack of cards im considering and site hate is something ive added to it thanks to that unique fire site that kills my deck lol. Youll also notice I dont run ring, p stone, cores or other obvious "staple competitive cards" and I do that for a reason. I dont find those cards fun at all to play and im all about having fun here. If you want to run those no shame on you and feel free to edit the deck as you see fit to run the cards you want to run. Im choosing to run the token generating stuff to offer me good chump blockers or easy ping damage to opposing sites. Tokens in general are just annoying so it felt right to me and so far its been fun. Hotwheel has also been an all star for me. Killing random dudes or even putting in that finishing blow has been great. 3 might be overkill but I like running max copies of stuff when I can. I will say the mvp of the deck though is Skeleton Mage. I. Love. That. Card! Its so so good at everything this deck wants to do and casting Common Sense a million times in a game just feels criminal lol. But really it helps me always have an answer to my opponent with all the 1 of ordinary cards I run to be fetched with Common Sense. I also run some pet cards that happen to be very strong like good ol pudgy but besides that I tried making the deck with cards that function in my hand and graveyard to really abuse that "cheat code" I mentioned.
Hopefully this probably poorly written primer helps you all make your own sick DS decks and show my passion for the deck! So go out there and resurrect the realm in a fashion that fits you best!
