This is a 2-4 player budget draft cube consisting of some of the most notable (& affordable) cards from Beta!
The goal was to create an affordable 180 card cube that can be largely built out of the upgraded precon decks (see my profile for info) primarily for 2 people. I've included 8 avatars in the sideboard that would also be included within the draft, but each player has the option of choosing either a spellcaster or sorcerer at the start of the draft - depending upon your personal preferences. Valley of Delight is the only non-Beta card included in this decklist, primarily for budgetary reasons, & can be swapped out for The Colour of Outer Space if budget allows.
For 2 players, split the deck roughly in half & deal the top 4 cards into 4 piles face-up. Player 1 picks one of the cards and adds 1 new card to each pile from the top of the deck. Player 2 then picks a pile & draws all cards from that pile, adding 1 more card to each pile from the top of the deck. Players alternate back and forth until each player has at least 45 cards - take all cards from a pile when you draft. This style is commonly referred to as “Winchester” drafting if you’d like to look at more details, and is a great way to teach beginners how to draft!
For 4 players, deal out 3 packs of 15 cards to each player & use the standard pick 2 & pass strategy until all cards have been drafted.
Additional sets can be added in 60-90 card increments with the following ratios:
Avatars - 4%
Minions - 51%
Magic / Auras - 22%
Artifacts - 9%
Sites - 8% Multicolor, 6% single color / colorless
Feel free to tune & add in more expensive cards as budget allows!
