Homebrew Archimago spellslinger deck!
Deck wants to cast as many spells as possible and use Archimago's effect to reuse some of them.
Overall game plan:
- Get some early game tempo using cheap creatures and spells
- In the mid game start rolling out some threats or generating more tempo with Merlin, Morgana, Harpies, or Wildfire
- Maintain card advantage by using our draw spells to keep digging through the spellbook.
- Use (cheap) removal spells to eliminate threats.
- Close out the game with magic spell damage (especially our big fire spells) and our big Airborne threats Vampire and Jinn.
Mulligans:
- Definitely want to mulligan aggressively for early game tempo cards. This could be something like getting Vile Imp for early tempo plays, Broomstick Witch/Sisters of Avalon/Apprentice Wizards for early draw and spellcasting angles, Cores to ramp up, or Merlin/Morgana to get the spellcasting ball rolling early.
- For sites, we want our threshold to be online asap. Active Volcano, Mountain Peaks, and Ruins are particularly good to keep, besides that keeping the standard good stuff like Gothic/Lone/Dark Tower helps us jump ahead mana when we need it, Deserts help us get some extra ping damage when we need it as well, and Free City/Great Wall/Bottomless Pit are nice to play on our front row.
Collection:
- Our collection is almost entirely dedicated to use from our Toolbox. I only have 1 copy at the moment but I would like to get more in the future to make this collection a little more accessible. Plenty of utility spells in here and plenty that help us draw a little more in case we need it.
Noteables:
- Morgana and Merlin are very strong in this deck given the high magic spell concentration. Merlin can almost always cast a magic spell off the top which ends up turning him into a card advantage engine. Nothing really needs to be said about Morgana that we don't already know.
- Sir Lamorak is a funny include and functions as a walking bomb for us, Threatening all the space around him with 4 damage. While the opponent may want to avoid killing him especially if their minions are in danger, we can use our spells to "detonate" him and get that 4 damage AoE when we need it.
- Wildfire x2 is kind of a flex slot. If I don't like them too much, I'll experiment with Whirling Blades or Witching hour instead.
Wishlist:
- Philo stone and Ring of Morgan (generically good cards but kind of boring and too expensive $$ to justify at the moment, unless i get very lucky with packs)
- Char Omphalos, perfect for this kind of deck and creates more card advantage. Also quite expensive $$
- Highland Princess to find a core. A very powerful turn 2/3 play.
- 1-2 more copies of toolbox
Any suggestions, observations, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and happy slinging. :-)
