My Elementalist control deck that managed to squeak into the top 8 at Plenty of Games in Melbourne 6/7 April. Good against minion-based aggro, Ok against other control builds, very poor against Avatar of Earth.
My biggest takeaway of the weekend is that I just wish I had more time to play and practise beforehand. The top 8 game was my second match against Enchantress ever, and it was definitely a trial by fire. I learned a lot, but made some poor decisions and misplays along the way, but as long as I can get people talking about the game, then that’s a big win in my book.
The build is something I’ve tinkered with over the last couple of months in league play, and it features some of my favourite cards that may not necessarily be tournament all-stars, but I enjoy them immensely.
It was a fantastic event, so big thanks to Jesse and the team at Plenty of Games.
Edit: The deck isn’t primarily a Roots deck, but has it as a backup plan to help regain board control. As such, it doesn’t recover super well compared to other builds. Instead the deck is more ramp and control to set up the Orb combo kill. As such the deck struggles against mobile avatars that are coming into your side of the board. I was hoping to play more sorcerer, where cards like poison nova help take away their card advantage. Geistwood is the most powerful card in the deck, and is probably a better mulligan than Roots a lot of the time.
