The Uthden Troll Cup: Community Spotlight:
Published 29 October 2026If you’ve been supporting Sorcery for a while, you know we’re not exaggerating when we say we have one of the best communities in the TCG space. And that community has a knack for putting on some rather remarkable events.
Among the people making those events happen are the Trolls of the Realm, whom you might recognize as the hosts of SorceryFest and the first Grand Contest of 2026.
They’re returning with the eighth Uthden Troll Cup, bringing four days of Sorcery to Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, November 5–8.

A Familiar Feeling, a New Realm
Now in its eighth edition, the Uthden Troll Cup grew out of a love for Old School TCGs. When event organizers Ron and Richard discovered Sorcery in August 2024, its hand-painted artwork and sense of discovery felt right at home.
“We fell in love with Sorcery in August 2024, and it felt like the game we’d been celebrating at the Troll Cup all along,” Ron explains.
Learn-to-play sessions and a Sealed event at UTC VI soon followed. This year, Sorcery has its own full program, giving returning players and curious newcomers plenty of ways to join in.
“Old School players come for the art and they stay for the gameplay,” Richard says.

Four Days of Sorcery
The weekend kicks off with casual games in the Troll Cave at Boutique Hotel Catshuis on Thursday evening, followed by Gothic Draft on Friday, Constructed at The Drunken Dragon Tavern on Saturday, and Gothic Sealed on Sunday.
For anyone curious about Sorcery, the organizers are also offering learn-to-play sessions on Thursday and Saturday nights, with decks and playmats provided and a free learn-to-play deck to take home.
Whether you’re stopping by for a few games or settling in for the whole weekend, visit All Things Sorcery for the full schedule, ticket options, and event details.

Every participant in any Uthden Troll Cup event receives a goodie bag containing a UTC magazine, inspired by the gaming magazines of the ’90s, with a Grey Wolves promo enclosed.
Artist Jeff Menges, who attended UTC V as a special guest in 2023, has also sent Grey Wolves prints and postcards to be raffled among Sorcery event participants.
“Having his wolves at the Troll Cup feels a bit like a homecoming,” the organizers say.
That spirit runs through the whole festival. The best prizes are raffled so everyone has a chance to win, and all proceeds go toward games, toys, and puzzles for the children’s ward at the local hospital.
“It’s a nice reminder of why we all started playing: we were once kids at a kitchen table too,” the organizers explain.
Pull Up a Chair
The Troll Cup has grown from 43 players in 2019 to 312 unique participants in 2025, but the organizers remain committed to its intimate atmosphere. Between games, visitors can enjoy a pub quiz, the Trolls vs. Sharks charity showdown, and a chance to turn familiar online names into new friends. First-time attendees even receive the traditional UTC patch.
