Shifting Ground: Drew Tucker’s Landslide
Published 6 November 2026With Frost Mage vs. Lavamancer about to slide into the realm, it’s the perfect time to take a closer look at Landslide by Drew Tucker. Capturing the feeling of the ground giving way beneath your feet might seem daunting to some. But anyone who knows Drew knows this is exactly the kind of challenge he embraces, with his trademark curiosity, a sense of mischief, and plenty of room to play.

The Ground in Motion
The original brief called for sections of ground sliding in opposite directions, which raised a technical question: how do you actually make a still painting feel as though ground is moving?
Fortunately, this is exactly the sort of challenge that Sorcery artist Drew Tucker loves to wrestle with. “Well,” Drew shares, “in the end, all paintings are still lifes, frozen moments in time.”
Drew initially imagined a pure landscape. He watched videos of landslides to study that movement, but also sought a more physical understanding and a later request from Erik Olofsson to add figures gave him another way to show it, with people struggling to keep their balance amid the shifting earth.
Getting those poses right called for a little practice. For at least a day, Drew slipped around the house, down the stairs, and through the yard, trying to capture the feeling of the ground sliding beneath him. After all, if you’re going to capture motion in action, you need to have as much experience as possible to understand it. That’s just Common Sense!
“The figures really tie it all together,” Drew says, “The man with the axe and the lady with the baby. That part, especially the baby, tickles me.”

Creating Together
For Drew, that collaboration is part of what makes working on Sorcery rewarding. “The art direction almost feels tailored at times towards the artist,” he shares. “It makes you really feel appreciated.”
At Erik’s Curiosa, we’re honored to get work with artists of Drew’s caliber.
