A Change in the Realm Frost Mage vs. Lavamancer Card Reveals
Published 30 October 2026The release of Frost Mage vs. Lavamancer is drawing near, and change is in the air. The days are growing shorter, the leaves are turning, and some of the Realm’s inhabitants are looking particularly at home.
We’ve already met some unusual Beasts and discovered what might be hiding beneath innocent-looking sites. This time, we’re meeting a few Spirits and taking a look at some Magic that could change the landscape of the Realm itself!

From Ash to Bloom
Frost Mage vs. Lavamancer brings no shortage of destruction, but when devastation strikes, Emberleaf Dryad is always there to help the Realm rebuild. Where some might see only Rubble, Emberleaf can always be counted on to see room to grow and to help find a path forward. After the horrors of Gothic, Emberleaf Dryad is a welcome sign of new growth.
Of course, not every Spirit is interested in bringing the forest back to life.

Something Wicked
Stiff-pitch Witch is more than happy to hand out “treats,” but you’d probably prefer she kept hers to herself! This mischievous Spirit has found a use for the dead, and it involves throwing them at whoever happens to be in range. Unfortunately, that range is surprisingly generous, and she’s not particularly fussy about who gets caught in the crossfire. Best give her plenty of room, lest your own minions get caught up in the chaos!
Of course, sometimes you have to give something up to get something back. Ash of Effort offers an interesting proposition. What if you could sacrifice a piece of the Realm in exchange for something new?
Perhaps you’ve got a Trap that’s outlived its usefulness, or a site you’d happily trade for a few more options. Whatever the reason, there’s something rather tempting about turning one site into three. Certainly, you’ll draw that site you were hoping for, right?

A Rather Dramatic Change of Scenery
For those with grander ambitions, there’s another option. All you’ll need is a well-chosen location, enemies foolish enough to venture near, and a rite best performed at a very safe distance.
The lone figure in Rite of Eruption seems rather pleased with their work. Your opponent, on the other hand, has until the start of your next turn to regret getting so close.
Now you just need to get creative about keeping them in place. A little preparation goes a long way when you’re planning to destroy everything around you.
If your idea of seasonal change is a little more chill, Polar Shift offers another way to switch up the scenery by moving every site one step north or south, with those at the edge reappearing on the opposite side. That distant corner of the Realm might be closer than you thought! What could you do with a shortcut like that?
Change was in the air. Now it’s underfoot, and several sites are no longer where you left them. What could be more Sorcery than that!
Join us next week as we put these cards to work in the Realm with a closer look at Frost Mage vs. Lavamancer gameplay!
