Caio Calazans

Caio Calazans, based in Brazil, has had a lifelong passion for art, starting with childhood drawings. Art began as a hobby rather than a career aspiration, and he never underwent formal art training. About a decade ago, his first venture into painting with brushes and paints came through altering cards, where he painted over existing designs. Despite initial challenges, Caio fell in love with the process and has continuously refined his skills since then. He developed individual techniques, drew inspiration from online videos, and deepened his understanding of artistic theory.

Caio's artistic journey took a significant turn when Erik discovered his work in a group dedicated to card alters and invited him to join Sorcery: Contested Realm. This opportunity marked the beginning of Caio's professional career in art, a milestone he continues to build upon with dedication. Grateful to collaborate with talented artists within the team, Caio remains committed to refining his skills and exploring new creative horizons.

Today, Caio Calazans thrives in his role, continually pursuing growth and innovation in his artwork. His journey from a hobbyist sketching in childhood to a recognized artist contributing to significant projects underscores his passion, dedication, and ongoing pursuit of artistic excellence.

Preferred Medium

I believe my preferred medium is acrylics on canvas, wood panels, or small blank cards (which were my original base). Acrylics allow the imagination to soar freely. It's easy to add, remove, or adjust elements during the creative process. Unlike other mediums, acrylics don’t demand a fully envisioned image from the outset; you can spontaneously create or envision new elements as you work. Most of my artworks showcase these dynamic qualities, but my favorites are yet to be unveiled in Arthurian Legends!

Biggest Achievements

Being invited to contribute to Sorcery: Contested Realm is my proudest and most fulfilling achievement to date! Additionally, I've been honored to rank highly in various art groups on social media and in several art contests.

Favorite Piece in Sorcery

Updraft Ridge: This was not only my debut piece for Sorcery but also my first on a larger canvas. Previously, I worked solely on small cards or mini-paintings, so transitioning to such a "giant" canvas was exhilarating. The expansive space offered newfound freedom, though adjusting to seeing the entire work at once posed a challenge. Mini-paintings allow for more meticulous detail management since everything remains visible throughout.
